How we work:

We partner with elementary and middle schools to provide students after school programs that focus on imparting computational thinking concepts with fun experiential projects. The projects students complete introduce and reinforce skills in coding and robotics, which are 21st century skills that can help shape their future academic goals. 

Our programs are easy for any potential instructor to learn, if you have a passion to teach kids, then you will be in the company of like minded people and enjoy this work either on a part time basis or as a partner running programs of your own.  

Job Description 

The Coding Instructor position involves teaching fun game design coding and robotics projects in a school classroom in person. No coding experience is necessary but it is helpful. The ages of kids ranges from 6-12 and class sizes can be up to 25 students, but most average around 12-18. The coding instructor receives training, support and lesson plans and we encourage instructors to customize their lesson plans for their classrooms as they need and we will help you every step of the way. 

The Coding instructor arrives on time before the Students arrive and sets up the classroom materials including Computers, presentation with a smart board or projector and plans for classroom instruction time, breaks and class dismissal. May work with or without classroom support or co-instructor. 

Attends preparation meetings, and training sessions as well as collects attendance data and completed projects by the students. 

Qualifications

To qualify, the applicant must have the ability to explain complex topics in simple, natural language so that kids can understand, as well as have a natural liking of teaching and/or instructing. The applicant must also be able to create fun and engaging lessons from a set curriculum. It is expected that instructors have some prior experience working with children particularly in an enrichment or a camp setting. We are looking for team players who are dependable and communicate well with others.

Education 

Bachelor’s degree or higher level education, or currently enrolled in higher education at an accredited institution. 

Dates and Hours

We are looking for applicants who can commit for 5 weeks the Summer of 2021 starting on June 28th, M-F from 12PM to 4PM. Must be available for some Virtual Training this Spring and attend On site training and material pick up one week prior to June 28th. Successful applicants are encouraged to keep the employment after the Summer and work After School Programs as a part time College Job where you can teach in person or virtual. Please do not apply if you do not meet the position qualification. 

Pay

The pay rate is $18-2o per hour. Training is paid.

You will also gain experience working with a team to execute engaging lessons and to think on your feet and also learn some cool projects in Game Design and Robotics. You will receive ongoing training and mentoring throughout your time with us and when requested you may receive a letter of recommendation and endorsements on linkedin from peers and mentors.

Qualifications

No computer programming experience is required. Looking for team players and natural leaders. To qualify the applicant must have previous experience leading children and or working in a camp or after school program. 

Duties

  • Assist the lead instructor with the management of the children in the classroom 
  • Receive the children from pick up area and lead them to classrooms 
  • Assist teacher by communicating children’s requests to teacher 
  • Assist with dismissal of class 
  • Prepare the classroom prior to teacher arrival including set up of the seating, the computer, connect the smartboard, children’s computers and accessories 
  • Assist with the Materials set up of the classroom
  • Leave classrooms in neat condition for use the following day

SKILLS: Punctual, organization, lead by example, lead by motivation, safety and first aid skills are a plus

We will break down coding concepts in a way that is easier to understand through a series of fun, creative, and engaging projects that are all created the way you want! It is your creative masterpiece. Students will have access to a recording for each class in case they want to rewatch the class or weren’t able to attend on a specific day. We will all learn coding together!

Winter Dates: Nov 30 – Jan 28

This winter join students from other schools in a zoom class that you can take from your school or home.
This after school club is free for public schools classrooms Grades 3-5 and it will be run for 6-8 weeks in Winter and Spring of 2021 Taught by Happy Code Club teachers with experience in various subjects including Scratch, Python, codehs.com, code.org, Robotics and more.
