Top 6 Reasons Why a Virtual Summer Camp is a Great Fit This Year

Virtual Screen Design
The purpose of this blog is to provide valuable information about tech education through our virtual summer camp. Virtual summer camp will allow students to explore a much needed 21st century skill.

This year, Happy Code Club is offering summer camp online to ensure our community stays safe in light of Covid-19, but still give families an opportunity to receive a great tech education from our experienced instructors. There are five reasons why you should choose virtual technology summer camp with Happy Code Club.

Reason #1: There are Multiple Dates and Options

Our virtual technology summer camp will be taking place from June 22, 2020 until August 28, 2020. We are offering weekly sessions, which gives you 10 opportunities to enroll! We have half day and full day options as well! But when does camp start and end each day?

Our camp day starts at 10:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm, with a break from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. That means:

  • Morning session: 10:00 am EST – 12:00 pm EST
  • Afternoon session: 1:00 pm EST – 3:00 pm EST

We begin Monday morning and sadly each week ends Friday evening.

However, we are ready to start a new week every week!

Our virtual technology summer camp offers classes in the following content areas:

  • Scratch
  • Python
  • Roblox
  • Robotics Stimulator
  • Minecraft
  • Virtual Reality

Reason #2: No Prior Experience Needed

Yes you read that right! We are more than happy to work with students who have never had any experience with coding before. We will teach them the basics of coding before going in depth.

If your child or the student you know doesn’t have any coding experience then we recommend signing up for our beginning Scratch or Python class. These two classes not only allow the student to learn coding through animations and games, but students will be able to see the progress of their work as they are making it! The end result of each project is always so creative, unique, and special to the student.

Reason #3: Accepting Young Students

Our camp has programs for students in grades 2+. Our website has recommendations for specific age groups!

Reason #4: Our Instructors are Prepared

Before Covid-19, we were already transitioning to an online option platform to accommodate schools and students who were a little out of reach. Our instructors are trained and provided much support and resources to run an effective online class. Each instructor hosting summer camp has already taught online classes with us.

An instructor will first attend a content and classroom management training workshop, then will teach a few online classes, and then attend a post-class discussion with a trainer to evaluate, assess, and reflect on their experience. We are continuously utilizing the resources available to us while also establishing new content/workshops to best fit our clientele and company expectations.

Reason #5: Small Class Sizes

Small class sizes help students learn faster and understand concepts better because the student is able to work relatively close with their instructor and peers. Our class sizes will be 5 students of less. This means there will be 5 students or less with 1 instructor, a 5:1 ratio. Students will be able to have all their questions answered along with an opportunity to create close bonds with their peers.

Reason #6: We’re Different From Other Tech Camps

Most online summer camps are providing an asynchronous platform to engage with the provider. This means that the activity can be done at your own time and pace. Of course, those benefits are extremely valuable however it will not satisfy what you may be looking for.

During these times, we understand that people are searching for fun and creative ways to learn, engage, and interact with others. That is why each week of camp will have an asynchronous and synchronous component. This means that you will have resources available to you outside of the information you receive on a live call with an instructor and other students who are learning how to code.

We have also established a way for parents to connect directly with the instructor and other parents. We want our members to feel like they are a part of a community.

We have had the pleasure to serve about 4,000 students so far, we hope to serve your family next!
